We’ve seen a lot at OneUpFix.
PS5s soaked in cola. Switches sticky with mystery juice. Xboxes that smelled like burnt hair and despair. But the one that still gets talked about around here? The PS5 that survived a house fire.
Yes, it happened. Yes, we fixed it. No, it didn’t smell great.
It started with a calm-sounding guy on the phone.
“Hey, my PS5 was in a bit of a fire. The TV’s toast, but I think the console’s okay. Might just need a port.”
Right.
“Also, I think it got sprayed with the fire extinguisher.”
That explained the urgency.
The console showed up in a plastic tote, like a pet that had misbehaved. Its side panel was warped. There was a streak of melted plastic near the HDMI port. White residue from the extinguisher clung to the vents like a reminder of how close it came to becoming landfill.
And somehow, it still turned on—briefly.
This was personal now.
The fire extinguisher had done its job—just in time. Most of the real damage was external or limited to parts we could replace. No major trace damage. No cooked BGA chips. Just a console that had literally walked through the fire.
First, we disassembled it down to the board and documented every spot of damage.
Then we:
It booted. No artifacting. No lag. No overheating. It ran God of War like nothing ever happened.
A repair like this isn’t about the HDMI port. It’s about understanding how deep the damage goes, knowing what matters and what doesn’t, and having the tools (and stubbornness) to restore a console that most people would’ve thrown out.
That’s what we do. Not just “replace the broken thing.” We assess. We clean. We revive.
No. If it’s melted down to a pile of plastic spaghetti, there’s not much we can do.
But if you’ve got a console that survived something unexpected—fire, water, impact, maybe an overzealous toddler—we’ll tell you honestly if it’s salvageable. And if it is? We’ll bring it back to life the right way.
We’re not a giant franchise. We’re local, in Barrie, and we actually do the work ourselves. Microsoldering, diagnostics, repairs, and deep cleaning—right here in-house.
If you’ve got a console problem and don’t want to ship it out or get ghosted by the big guys, bring it to OneUpFix.
We’ve seen worse. We’ve fixed worse. And we’re not afraid of a little soot.
